Lying inland from the Pacific at the South end of Tillamook Bay, tucked between the Coastal Range Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, the town of Tillamook is the gateway to the area that boasts some of the most beautiful beaches on the Oregon Coast. The area features three major bays and seven major rivers that are home to World Class Chinook Salmon fishing. At the factory the visitors can learn about and observe the cheese making process and buy all kinds of cheese made there, including the cheddars, the specialty of the factory.

Cheese tasting is a favorite family activity. The Tillamook Cheese Visitor's Center and the Blue Heron Cheese and Wine Company, located on the same side of U.S.101 as the Tillamook Cheese Factory, offer samples of cheeses and many gourmet foods. Blue Heron is famous for brie, as well as for the wide variety of Oregon wines available in their wine tasting room. There is a petting zoo for the kids, and sandwiches are available at their deli.
