Las Vegas Nevada

Nevada is the state known for wedding chapels in which Elvis impersonators conduct the ceremonies. It is also known for grand hotels, including one that is replica of the Great Pyramid in Egypt. The Luxor hotel in Las Vegas is famous for its gigantic replica of the Egyptian sphinx. Nevada is Las Vegas, a city built on gambling and famous for its night life and bright lights.

But there is more to Nevada than flash and fantasy. Nevada is also huge stretches of rugged and almost empty land. Colorful rocks, darting lizards, and prickly cactuses are only are only a few of the natural features of Nevada. The Sierra Nevada Mountains reach into Western Nevada, with their peaks snowcapped all year round. In fact, that is how Nevada got its name (Nevada means “snow-covered” or “snowy” in Spanish). Within its landscape and beyond, Nevada is full of surprises and wonders. Beyond the blinking neon light is a diverse land of barren desert, snowcapped mountains and thousands years of history.

Best Things To Do In Las Vegas

Today, Nevada is best known as the home to Las Vegas which is the most unique city in the world, an international entertainment mecca. There is truly no other city in the world where the city is the show. Because Las Vegas means fun, excitement, bright lights, entertainment and…, of course, casinos, measured in acres. The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos. The most famous hotel casinos are located on Las Vegas Boulevard, better known as the Las Vegas Strip. Many of these hotels are massive, carrying thousands of rooms, with their large adjoining casino areas. There are many hotel casinos in the city's downtown area as well.

But casinos aren’t all Las Vegas. Las Vegas is also luxurious showrooms, theme parks, monorails, marquees as large as office buildings, lit with the names of the biggest stars, shopping centers, specialty stores and nearly every type of restaurant imaginable.

There are many things to do in Las Vegas besides just gambling, although it is also thrilling. Many of the Las Vegas hotels provide free entertainment. The best one and definitely not to be missed are the fountains of Bellagio, which rise and fall in choreographed rhythms to tunes from Sinatra to opera during the day and part of the night. You will also see the Mirage’s volcano "explodes" and Treasure Island’s pirates battle scantily clad "sirens". The Mirage’s features one of the finest manicured habitats of the bottlenose dolphins. So seeing dolphins in the desert is a reality and watching them frolic and even toss a ball is the best attraction in Vegas.

The MGM Hotel has an amusement park and the actors at the Treasure Island Hotel act out pirate ship battles. Circus Circus Hotel features one of the largest circuses in the world.

Besides fabulously opulent lush hotels, Las Vegas has got access to some marvelous hiking with awe-inspiring rock formations in Red Rock Canyon. You can also have water fun on Lake Mead, enjoy breathtaking desert vistas of Valley of the Fire State Park, and marvel the engineering and architectural genius at Hoover Dam. Back in town there are plenty of shows, some of them are one of the best in the world. There is even Liberace Museum with real masterpieces. The Southern Nevada Zoological-Botanical Park, also known as the Las Vegas Zoo, exhibits over 150 species of animals and plants.

Children will have fun in Lied Discovery Children’s Museum, is one of the largest children’s museums in the United States, which is also on the Strip. Here the visitors can learn what it is like to fly a spacecraft or find out what it is like to work at a TV station.

The Las Vegas Natural History Museum is located on the North end of the Strip. The museum displays show the history of Nevada. Visitors can see dinosaur fossils and moving dinosaur models.

Las Vegas also hosts some cultural events as well. On the first Friday of each month, the "First Friday" celebration is held which exhibits the works of local artists and musicians in a section of the city's Downtown region now called the "Arts District".
