Lanikai Oceanfront

Kailua is a quintessential beach town which is blessed by two gorgeously beautiful beaches known all over the world. Steady offshore tradewinds make this place perfect for windsurfing, kayaking and other water sports. Here life revolves around the beach.

Oahu Lanikai Ocean View

Protective reefs, two gorgeously beautiful beaches, secluded islands nearby and tropical scenary make Kailua Bay the hot destination for kayakers in Hawaii. Having decided to take an adventure trip there, you should be prepared to be greeted with endangered Green Sea Turtles and living coral reef teaming with tropical fish. If you are lucky you may come across Humpback Whales, Spinner Dolphins or even the elusive Hawaiian Monk Seal.

Lanikai Ocean

Kailua boasts two wonderful beaches – Kailua Beach and Lanikai Beach. Lanikai Beach is famous for its transparent turquoise water and a long stretch of powdery white sand beach. Its setting is really gorgeous with palm trees that rim the background and the magnificent view of nearby twin islands of Mokumanu and Mokukua drifting offshore in the distance.

Lanikai Beach

Lanikai means "heavenly sea" in Hawaiian and this name very precisely describes this wonderful place with its white sand beach and balmy breeze. Mokumanu and Mokukua are bird sanctuaries and are popular places for kayaking and boarding.

Oahu Lanikai

Here you can explore deserted islands and the mysterious marine life, discover wonderful snorkel spots, kayak surfing, hidden pools and secluded coves.

A good way to take off the stress and leave the hustle of the urban world behind is to paddle a kayak. Just concentrate on the paddles dipping in and out of the water and look around for flashing schools of fish, or sail to a little islet drifting in the distance. When paddling, the time seems to slow down and the world seems to be revolving in slow motion and all a paddler has to do is just to catch a rhythm.

A relatively new and becoming extremely popular kind of extreme water sports is kiteboarding. Like windsurfing, it requires wind, courage, the necessary equipment and skills. A kiteboard resembles the surfboard or a wakeboard, but it is small and with straps. A kiteboarder, standing on a kite, is pulled across the water and into the air by a big kite. Experienced kiteboarders can take a flying leap off flat water and soar up to 40 feet in the air. Though this kind of sports seems simple enough, it really requires some practice to coordinate your moves and acquire some skills.

If you are looking for a secluded place at the oceanfront to spend the day on the beach with the kids, there is no better place than Lanikai Beach. Its crystal clear lagoon resembles a huge saltwater swimming pool that you have to share with tropical fish and turtles slowly drifting nearby.

Oahu Lanikai Ocean

These waters are the home for the gentle, lumbering Pacific Green Turtles. These huge creatures can grow up to 4 feet and weigh up to 400 pounds. They mostly eat seaweed that grows in the rocks in shallow places. The turtles are called green not because of the color of the algae growing on their backs, but because of the color of their meat that is green.

Oahu Lanikai Nature

Having come across one, you should remember that they are protected by law and it’s prohibited to surround, chase, touch or swim with any endangered marine animal. On seeing the turtle, don’t approach it too close; let it have 10-15 feet of space to surface and breath.

Lanikai Boats

This place is too beautiful to be real and is one of Hawaiian postcard perfect beaches. It is just a mile long and is thin in some places, but the sand is soft and white. Prevailing onshore trade winds make this place an excellent spot for kayaking, windsurfing and other sports activities.

Lanikai Ocean View

Located in a residential neighborhood, Lanikai is less crowded than any other Oahu beach, making it the ideal spot to spend the day in quiet.

To find Lanikai, drive past the Kailua Beach ramp, along Mokulua drive to a large one-way loop that surrounds the village.

Lanikai Photo

This is prime beachfront property with the beach to match. Public access to the property is easy to find, but there are no lifeguards and bathroom facilities as well, and parking is very scarce there.
