Nowhere else will you be able to inhale Hawaii authentic culture and history as well as its present flourishing state better than in Honolulu. Honolulu offers a wide range of attractions, including a lovely city beach, some excellent museums, elegant public gardens and a plethora of good restaurants. Here sightseeing options are really diverse, and most of them cater to young travelers as well, like the Honolulu zoo, the Waikiki Aquarium or the Children's Discovery Center offering hands-on learning. The latter is geared primarily toward elementary school-aged children, although older kids may find some exhibits to their liking as well. The Tot Spot features toys and games for toddlers, while Fantastic You! explores the human body. At Your Town section of the museum kids can drive an interactive fire engine, be bank tellers or TV interviewers. The other two sections, Hawaiian Rainbows and Your Rainbow world, allow children to navigate the ship and swim with dolphins.

Enjoy swimming turquoise waters of the Pacific at Ala Moana Beach Park featuring all beach facilities, with several football fields and tennis courts. Ala Moana is generally safe for swimming; however, at low tide the deep channel running the length of the beach can be quite hazardous for poor swimmers. One of the most photogenic parks in the country, this one-mile golden sand beach is fringed by statuesque shade trees, with downtown Honolulu skyscrapers forming some kind of a mini-mountain range in the distance. This beach is very popular among Honolulu residents who go jogging here, play volleyball and enjoy weekend picnics.

When in Honolulu, visit Iolani Palace, the only official state residence of royalty in the United States, the one-time home of the last two Hawaii monarchs. Built by King David Kalakaua, this four-story Italian Renaissance palace was the first electrified building in Honolulu. It's unbelievable, but it had electricity before the White House and Buckingham Palace! Its construction lasted for 3 years and cost $360,000 that nearly bankrupted the Hawaiian kingdom. The 10-room palace stands as an architectural statement of the monarchy period. It has two sections: state apartments and private quarters, and Palace Galleries complete with crown jewels, the ancient feathered cloaks, the royal china, and more, as well as the grounds. Areas open to the public include state dining room, Grand Hall, throne room, and the imprisonment room where the queen was held when the monarchy was overthrown. Iolani Palace is located by the address: 364 S King St Honolulu, Hawaii 96813.

Discover unique Oahu heritage, exotic and beautiful, at the Foster Botanical Garden, which is the main botanical garden of the island. Here you can spot impressive 14-acre collection of tropical flora in their lush greenery, including the plants you have only read about. In the garden you can see many extraordinary plants, including a tree so rare that it doesn’t have a common name – the East African Girasiphon macrosiphon, which is thought to be extinct in the wild.

To get in touch with the unique past of the island, its natural and cultural history, visit the Bishop Museum, originally designed to house the extensive collection of Hawaiian artifacts and royal family heirlooms of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop. The Museum has since expanded to include millions of artifacts, documents and photos about Hawaii and other Pacific cultures. Here the visitors can learn more about Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures through live, interactive presentations and exhibit tours. In the Planetarium you can view Polynesian skies and learn how voyagers navigated using the stars to sail the Pacific. In the new Science Adventure Center, you can experience Hawaii unique natural environment like never before. For instance, control volcanic eruptions, pilot a deep sea rover, see lava melting demos, or walk through the vivid environment of the Hawaiian Origins Tunnel. The USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Hawaii. The largest harbor in Hawaii, Pearl Harbor is also a United States National Historic Landmark. There are four main visitor attractions in Pearl Harbor: the USS Arizona Memorial, the USS Bowfin Submarine, the USS Missouri Battleship, and the Pacific Aviation Museum. The visitor centers and museums for the Arizona Memorial and the Bowfin Submarine are located next to each other, on the shore of Pearl Harbor, not far from the Aloha Stadium. A shuttle bus transports visitors from the Arizona/Bowfin area to Ford Island so they can tour the Missouri Battleship and visit the Pacific Aviation Museum.

The USS Arizona Memorial is the final resting place for many of the USS Arizona Battleship 1177 crew members who lost their lives when their ship was sunk by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. The Arizona Memorial commemorates the site where World War II began for the United States.

The USS Bowfin Submarine, located right next door to the USS Arizona Memorial Visitors Center, was launched for the first time on December 7, 1942, exactly one year after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. There is a free outdoor museum on both sides of the indoor museum featuring missiles, memorials, and gunnery exhibits. The indoor museum displays interesting submarine-related exhibits. Visitors can also walk through the actual USS Bowfin Submarine, docked in the water just outside the museum.

Located on historic Ford Island, the Battleship Missouri is within Naval Station Pearl Harbor. It offers guided tours by retired military veterans who are telling the Missouri story. And nearly every square foot of the Missouri has a story, and there are some areas of the battleship that are only accessible with expert guides at your side answering questions and bringing the battleship to life.
