Wailea Beach

Wailea Beach Nature

If you choose to stay at the Four Seasons Wailea and the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa, you’ll get to Wailea Beach right from the front yard. One of the best golden-sand crescents on Maui’s sunbaked coast and one of the five beaches of Wailea Resort, Wailea Beach is large, wide and is rimmed on both sides by black lava points.

From the beach you can enjoy a spectacular view out to sea, protected by neighboring Kahoolawe and Lanai and the small crescent of Molokini. This place is so beautiful, that you could spend all your vacation on the beach doing absolutely nothing and it would be a super vacation.

But those who prefer to take advantage of great many activities available here, won’t be disappointed either as it’s a perfect place for scuba diving, fishing, hiking, sailing, helicopter rides, bike tours. It is probably the best snorkel spot in this area. You can ride gently with or without the board as transparent waters roll onto the shore in waves just the right size. From December to April you can watch Pacific whales from shore and be the spectator of magnificent sunsets every night.

Ulua Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Wailea. When there’s no breeze and the ocean is calm, you can have the best snorkeling. When the waves are rough, it’s ideal for bodysurfers. Just swimming can also be a wonderful pastime as shallow ocean bottom with gentle slopes going down make it safe enough even for the most unsophisticated divers. In high season (that’s from Christmas to May and from June to August) the beach is so crowded by guests of nearby resorts that you are hardly to find a vacant spot of sand to lay your towel on. When there’s a need for any beach equipment, you can rent it at the nearby Wailea Ocean Activity Center. Beach facilities include showers and restrooms.

Tired of civilization? Then the southern end of Maui’s resort coast is for you! If you are eager to see wild, dry countryside of green kiawe trees, go to Maluaka, also called Makena, Beach, with it’s huge territory of 1,800 acres and just a couple of first-rate golf courses and a number of perfect beaches. This place is remarkable of its gorgeous beauty so you would find yourself busy clicking your camera all the time. Especially notable are the views of Molokini Crater, a picturesque offshore islet, and Kahoolawe, the so-called "target" island. It’s called "target" because this island was used as a bombing target a few decades ago. The beach is fringed with magnificent palms and grainy sand is sparkling in the bright sun, surrounded by two black lava points. The clear waters are mostly calm and swimming here is said to be the best on Makena Bay.
