Maui Lahaina Photo

If anyone ever tells you that the city of Lahaina has nothing that stands it out from the number of other Hawaiian towns, don’t believe. Only at first glance this town may seem to look like any other port town. But, as you know, appearance can be deceiving. Lahaina is worth seeing, with its bountiful nature and rich history.

Lahaina Ocean

Originally, Lahaina was an ancient Hawaiian fishing village, but after the westerners had invaded the islands, it became more and more popular, mostly because of its natural harbor. The whalers used to call the port of Lahaina and this place was developed to look like a New England whalers’ village with New England style of architecture. Today many historical buildings are being renovated to their former glory to preserve the traces of the past centuries.

Lahaina Hotel

Now the cruise ships replaced the whaling ships and you can’t but perceive the port town atmosphere pervading the whole town. Actually, it is so compact that you can easily walk around its downtown. Lahaina is mostly a tourist holiday town and primarily a cruise ship port of call. It has everything for the tourists’ appeal: trendy boutiques, fancy restaurants, places of interest. The main hub of activity that has been warmly welcoming guests since 1901 is the wooden built Pioneer Inn, now a Best Western Hotel. Fancy yourself stepping back into a different world when you walk inside, with old whaling photos and seafarer’ equipment. And although catching whales may be long dead but whale watching is big business here, with the protected humpback whale, the Hawaii state mammal that swims by this place between late November and early May every year. The warm clear waters around Maui are ideal mating grounds for the humpbacks and a popular site to watch them enjoying their "winter vacation" is off Puunoa Point.

Maui Lahaina Beachfront

This place is remarkable for its beach vacation with condo rentals that are right on the beach. Lahaina Shores Beach Resort is the only vacation condo rentals in this town. A quiet oasis of the resort is situated in the unbeatable location – on the oceanfront of Lahaina Town and along historic Front Street where Hawaiian royalty once lived. Having passed through arched colonnades, you get into a spacious lobby which is opening into the sea. It is impossible to resist the old fashioned charm of this plantation style Maui resort, the atmosphere of which echoes the time when comfort and luxury was king.

Lahaina Oceanfront

From the windows of air-conditioned accommodations with full kitchens and oversized lanais the guests can enjoy gorgeous ocean and mountain views. Whirlpool spas will present relaxation and swimming on your own beach will provide an excellent exercise for the fans of the active mode of life. A wide range of catamaran and boat trips offering snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, fishing, dinner cruises, and whale watching cruises are offered at Lahaina Harbor. You can easily arrange surfing lessons as well.

Maui Lahaina Palms

The variety of activities is nearby and just steps away from the condos. Tennis, golf and amusements of the bright night life of Lahaina town are just steps away. There are also art galleries and even an award winning sunset Hawaiian luau. If you are in Lahaina for the first time, it is worth joining a knowledgeable tour guide to learn of ancient voyages, religious temples, sacred Hawaiian kings, and the beginnings of western contact. The tours include the visit of archeological sites and monuments left by Hawaiians, missionaries, whalers and plantation owners.
