Located on the East coast of Florida approximately midway between Jacksonville and Miami, the Center represents a marriage of technology and nature at its best. Kennedy shares its property with 140,000-acre Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge providing a wide array of habitats, including coastal dunes, saltwater estuaries and marshes, freshwater impoundments, scrub, pine flat woods and hardwood hammocks, which are home to more than 1,500 species of plants and animals. While visiting the refuge, guests can enjoy bird and wildlife observation, a wildlife drive, manatee observation deck, fishing and hunting, plus boating and paddling.

When exploring Kennedy, you will have a chance to see with your own eyes how the Space Shuttle is processed today. A trip to the Air Force Museum at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station will take you back to NASA beginnings and past the launch structures that were used to launch the Mariner, Explorer, Viking, and Voyager spacecraft to the planets.

Visitors can expect to dedicate at least one day exploring the Visitor Complex, enjoying its Rocket Garden, IMAX movies, space history exhibits, a full-sized walk-through Space Shuttle display, the Apollo/Saturn V facility, the Astronaut Hall of Fame, bus tours, restaurants and a gift shops. The Official Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Space Shop is the world largest store devoted entirely to space and NASA gifts, memorabilia, toys and collectibles. The Space Shop has about 1,000 space-related items and NASA souvenirs that will be of great interest for enthusiasts of all ages, from the first-time visitor to the serious collector.

Other space-related attractions available nearby include the Astronaut Memorial Planetarium and Observatory at Brevard Community College in Cocoa and the U.S. Space Walk of Fame in Titusville.
