Newport Beach offers numerous entertainment and recreation opportunities. For instance, you may rent a beach bike and cruise the boardwalk and the bayfront, watching eclectic homes that line the narrow side streets on your way to the Wedge, a romantic pocket park overlooking the Pacific.

Or you may just as well board the ferry at the foot of Main Street and take a ride to tiny Balboa Island to have lunch there at the small restaurant. Or visit a little amusement park, located on the waterfront Balboa Pier and Balboa Pavilion and preserving an old-fashioned small town charm. You can find there a Ferris Wheel, a merry-go-round, bumper cars, a moon bounce, arcade games, laser tag and such art projects as spin painting. Almost as fun for kids as the Balboa Fun Zone is a ride over to Balboa Island on the Balboa Island Ferry which departs right near the Fun Zone. It is a short, picturesque little kid-size ride to the island. Balboa Peninsular is a very nice place to visit with its bay and ocean beaches, bike paths, pier and paddle boats on the bay.

Newport Beach

Newport Beach contains seven islands with some of the most expensive real estate in Southern California. Homes costing $2 million and up are surrounded by one of the world's largest small yacht harbors. Balboa Island is the largest. Lido Isle with Lido Marina Village, shops, art galleries, boutiques and boardwalk cafes plus Little Balboa Island, Linda Isle, Collins Island, Harbor Island and Bay Island make up the man-made harbors and lands that rank among the most expensive in Orange County.

Cruise on the Pavilion Paddy to get acquainted with Newport Beach Harbor. Soak up sunshine while moving gently past through green water. Float past waterfront homes, each with their own boat dock, and listen to the gossip-column stories of today and yesterday. Learn who owns that enormous yacht, and how they made their money.

Newport Beach has a Catalina Flyer catamaran boat service daily to Catalina Island. Take the Catalina Flyer for a day trip to Catalina Island, the Club Med of Los Angeles. And if you can't make it to the island, just standing on the Newport shore and watching the sunset over the island will also be fascinating.
